January 18, 2008. Over the holidays I had a small bulge in my stomach area that was tender to the touch. I saw my family doctor (Dr. David VandeMerwe) and he thought it might be a hernia, so he sent me to see a surgeon. I met with the surgeon (Dr. Kerry Fischer) and he determined that it was 80% a hernia, 20% a tumor (benign). On Jan. 18th I had the surgery to repair a hernia, but the surgeon discovered there was no hernia, but rather a tumor in my liver. He did a biopsy and determined that the tumor had metastasized from another organ.
January 21, 2008. I had a CT scan of my digestive tract done to determine where the cancer has spread from. The CT scan showed a second tumor in my liver, but no tumors or signs of cancer in my small and large intestines, or in my pancreas (I need to check but I believe the scan included my stomach as well.)
January 22, 2008. I met with the surgeon and he said more tests will need to be done. He would like me to see another surgeon who specializes in removal of cancerous tumors. He also needs me to see a gastrointerologist.
So this coming week I have two appointments scheduled. Monday I see the gastrointerologist (Dr. Peter Nielsen) to schedule a procedure where a small camera goes down my throat and into my stomach to look around, and another similar procedure to look at the colon. My second appointment is with the other surgeon (Dr. Mark Ott) to determine a plan of action for the tumors in the liver. I will update this blog after my appointments.
Thank you for your prayers.
